ok

i will be frank with you, it has ALOT of room for improvement.

to start out with, you absolutley have to stop using that gay FL voice generator! you're better off recording yourself speaking, it just sucks. the notes have random dynamics, bad pronunciation, and it is just plain cheap and overused.

the brassy synth that comes in right after...well, cool use of a fade in, but you sort of overdid it. it almost killed my ears. it was way too loud. i dunno, it wasnt that great of a synth either. it was pretty low quality and buzzy, choose some better ones, like tweak/master the generator presets on FL.

good beats you have there, im glad you diversified the percussion. you really needed a kick though. the snare was pretty punchy, a sturdy dance snare, but kick/hat isnt really good in techno. not too big of an issue. overall, good job with that.

needs more of a melody though. plus you have what, 5 instruments in there? come on man, diversify it up a little. use a better, stronger bass. more sounds. better sounds. that's all you really need to do. 3/5.

thx for the critique. its very informative. the synth at the begining is supposed to be a bit filthy but ill fix a lil. i know i cam do better im just a huge noob tho.

sweet

yea this is better. but you still can improve it! get more stuff going at the same time. you only had like 3 instruments play at the same time max! the cool trancey synth you used was pretty nice. but yea, be more original! dont just use the original song's notes, make some more melodies and harmonies of your own! besides that its a cool song. no ending though! nice bells. dont submit all the stages of a song, just submit the final version, and maybe, if you want, a demo. 5/5'd! check out my new song!

pretty cool.

the bass is sorta cheap. i know you spent alot of time mastering it, but it sounds really low quality and buzzy. the string is really buzzy too. i dunno how you do that, but its annoying, expecially with headphones. i like how you switched up the bass around middle of the song. and i love that melody with the string. you did a nice job on that. both parts, the first one and the part with the back up string ,are great.
one other small problem i had with it was when the bass faded out at the one part, it went really fast. i like the beat too, its cool, which snare did you use? you probably should have used a diffrent beat after a while, it got kind of repetitive. you did 'spice up' the hats though, that was pretty cool. oh yea and one more thing, the song had a lot of variety in it, note-wise, but you should have used some more instruments. this only had 3 melodic instruemnts.
5/5 and download, good job. just remember...more instruments and better quality!

Thankyou for the review exodus! i know where you're coming from with most of your comments. however, i do have disagree with some of them. the bass, to me, felt fitting to the song and i didnt hear the buzzyness in the sting. the snare was the third snare in the dance section i think. thank you about the melodies. i realize i should have put alittle more instruments in ther but it was intended to be background music in a game my brothers making.
alsoi i didnt knnow whicg=h part had the fast bass, ill check it out.

thx again. ttyl, and ill review ure songs...

lol is it saying 'can't you see i'm on fire?'

great song, you've surpassed my expectations once again. i haven't listened to your original On Fire but i will right after this.

i like the vocals, i dunno if it was you that did it, but the delay on the voice is synced perfectley with the song. also that little distortion fade in with the voice at the very beggining, is very cool. you gotta tell me how you did that!

the build up to the drum break is pretty much perfect. the pads/synth strings you used were absolutley marvelous. which program did you use for this one? yea anyway back to the build. i like how you diversifyed the piano chords there, but throughout the song they were used alot and the same notes everytime. i dunno they were pretty covered up by the other instruments so i guess it doesnt matter that matter that much.

your fx, like usual, is amazing. you just have this magic touch for reverb, delay, filters, it's incredible. but my main problem with this song was that little moogy synth. you would have your awesome filter cut fades with it, but it really bothered me. it was pretty prodominent at most parts of the song and it really was annoying. it was that one at 1:30. yea, it might just be me but it sounded pretty cheap, too poppy.

my other concern was the chime. dont get me wrong, it was awesome at other part, good delay and all, but at 1:46 when it comes in, it is horribley off beat! i dont know if that was an error on your part, or you did that on purpose, but its like one half or one beats off beat and the first time i heard it, i went back and played it like 6 times before being sure.

good job once again EON, this is defineltey one of the best trance songs i have heard in a while. newgrounds is spawning pop ups like crazy, so i have to wrap up the review here. keep em coming!

-Exodus

EON responds:

Thanks for the review. Ok, in order..
Firstly, the 'distortion fade' you referred to was the technique of reverse reverb, where you reverse the sample, add reverb, and then reverse it back again. Clever huh :)
I used FL for everything, apart from sound forge for the reverse reverb.
Yeah I guess it was a little repetitive, but that's why I put it under trance..
And how can you call that 'moogy' synth cheap?? It's an awesome preset on Vanguard, I really liked it. Very Leftfield.
And the chimey fill, I'm pretty sure it's not offbeat. I put it in exactly the same beat of the bar as all the other instances. Interesting you thought that though, maybe it's to do with the speakers, or it could just be the distortion at that point.

Don't forget to vote the track next time! :)

wow. incredible.

This song was so flawless, I am speechless!

Actually, i'm not! Hear me out, this was one hell of an intro song. I cannot eve begin to imagine what the climax of the game's music will like!

I'm afraid I didn't get the feeling of defiance from this piece, despite the powerful brass and title. It seemed bold, yes, but also ambient. Like, a marching army, not yet near battle, but both eager and fearful to find out what is yet to come.

This song was quite good, to say the least. The dynamics were perfectley chosen and placed. I must learn how to get some decent brass that doesnt come in an 800 dollar sound pack like the ones you use, lol. Don't get me wrong, i'm sure they are very handy and worth the price, but I honestly don't have that kind of cash! So here I end my review, keep spitting out one quality song a week, you're simply too awesome for words.
5/5.

MaestroRage responds:

A climax!!!

I KNEW we were missing something >_<!!!

Then again the project was already at 10 megs which is Newgrounds absolute limit, so we had no room for another song, unless we severely degraded the quality of what we had, which I personally did not really want to do. All the songs for the game were reduced as much as possible without jeopordizing sound quality.

As for some good brass, I don't know if you know this site.

www.sf2midi.com

but that site has a LOT of soundfonts. Some are brilliant, but a lot of them are pure crap to be honest. If you have the energy, then search away!

I appreciate the compliments, I am glad you enjoy the works :D. I will try to keep them coming, I hope you will be around to listen to some of them ^^.

Thank you for the review, once again i'm glad you liked the piece!

nice work

ok, here's your review!

I like the build up in the first 28 seconds, the really faded panned crashes are awesome! discrete, but they do their job. i understand that if they were too loud the panning would probably get annoying. You used a GT Kick right? i have the same ones. i havent used them yet though.

you use the high string in all your songs though, maybe not the exact same note, but like usual it went through, like, the whole song. soemtimes it seemed to, well, get tiring for my ears, even when it was covered up by endless layers of synths, beats, and vocals. its ok though, it wasnt too big of a problem.

is it just me, or at around 3:04 the volume of Kate's voice shoots up all of a sudden? like, right in the middle of a phrase. i dunno. im just pointing out all these tiny, unimportant mistakes because i feel that this review would be pretty empty with just compliments. im glad that you're still submitting, i love your music!

5/5, easily.

-Exodus

uh yea

i dont have time to give it a full review right now but i liked the song and i gave it a 5/5. i like the FF music and im glad your making remixes of their songs. keep it up!

MooMan911 responds:

Thanks. I'll keep em' coming as long as I can find ones that I want. =P

woot, first review

little fuzziness in the start, but my song has that too! its annoying how you have to reduce the file size so much in order to obey newgrounds' 4mb limit! >.<

anyway onto the song. i like the beat, nice little simple techno/trance thing, goes well with the song. cool synth choice, they all went together nicely. the only thing i had a problem with was that 2 note organ, it goes on the whole song! not much variety there! besides that, nice job. i like that harp noise that you used too. check out my page!
5/5

TheAhiram responds:

Thanks for the review exodus! the size limit was just like that already, so it didn't effect anything. Glad you like it! Shure, i'll check out your page as soon as I can!

hmm

i dunno, i see potential in you i guess, but you should add length to your songs. none of them are over 40 seconds, theyre mostly pretty repetitive. 5/5, nonetheless, just add soem length and diversity, and more than 3 patterns, and you should be good to go!

BlackPlastic responds:

Hmmm wouldnt I have to work hard to do that though....

ahh!

only 40 downloads and 5 reviews in 3 days??! what's going on here??? easy 5 and download for me.

i like this, love the little FL voice generator that you used in both your remixes lol

but the best part is that scratchy synth that you have in both, i absolutley love it and i would want to know what synth you used to make it (not that i will steal it and use it in any of my songs).

i love the violin too, it sounds so lively and realistic. haha and then after those kick ass effects, the 8 bit sounds that come in, that is so sweet. this has the draze/x-digital/whatever touch. the choice of synths was just, amazing. and you gotta teach me how to make those awesome effects, or tell me where you get them. they make the best little builds. i must say though, i also enjoyed your song Ashes alot, that would make the best skankin'/ ravin' song. your really talented, are you getting a career in music? you definetley should.

so yea, keep sumbitting you great free music!
